From The Traitor King Darren peered through the gap in the bushes and his breath caught. The hill dropped off abruptly on the other side, sloping into a valley cradled between two snowcapped mountain ranges. The woods gave way to lush green meadows, speckled with wildflowers. Farther on, a cluster of enormous oaks with thick, black branches ringed several grassy hills. The valley's cliffs, glens, lakes, and waterfalls were far too much to take in at once. "Tavare," said Nim, gazing proudly at the valley. From the way the brownie had spoken of Tavare before, Darren had expected a city with stone castles, towers, and walls. But there weren't any buildings that he could see —at least not ones made of stone. Tavare seemed to have grown out of the earth, exactly as it was. Only it was a city. The huge oaks forming the outer ring were like towers, bustling with life in their branches, while streams wove between the roots and hills, smooth as streets. The snowcapped peaks surrounding the valley formed a barrier higher than any castle walls... Contests and Games Picture Tavare The picture to the left isn't Tavare. Not even close. Tavare is far more spectacular than this. If you've read The Traitor King, you probably have your own idea of what Tavare, the valley in the center of the Otherworld, looks like. So here's the challenge:1) Draw Tavare, or any part of Tavare, as you imagine it. 2) Include any characters from the book you want to (Dwyfen, Jackie, Darren, Will, Nim and the others are all very eager to see what you think of them). 3) Send your drawing, or a copy of your drawing to me (address below). Include a return address, in case you're a prize winner. 4) Top entries will receive cool prizes, and will be posted on this site. (Sorry, no cash prizes, but think of the eternal fame you'll get for having your picture displayed here).
